Exterior Painting Preparation

Taking time and care in the preparation of your home’s exterior before painting can make all the difference in the quality and outcome of your project.

These are the basic steps we apply when painting a wood exterior.

  • Make any repairs necessary (Remove rotten wood and damaged material and replace, patch holes, etc.)

  • Wash all exterior surfaces being painted (Allow to fully dry - 24 to 48 hours)

  • Scrape all loose paint

  • Sand and smooth surfaces and edges

  • Remove old loose caulk. Re-caulk cracks, openings where boards come together, joints, etc.

  • Seal and prime all bare surfaces

Some of the steps will vary depending on what your home is sided with. For instance, vinyl siding or brick and masonry will have different preparation techniques.  Call us to schedule an appointment for an estimate on your project.
